Am I an artist?
Share
I’ve been wondering lately… what really makes someone an artist?
I do have the credentials. I earned a degree in painting and even ran a mural and decorative furniture-painting business for a while. Back in the day, I could spend hours creating realistic trompe l’oeil pieces that truly fooled the eye.
But in today’s world of AI and digital imagery, I sometimes find myself asking: is there still value in realistic painting? That kind of work takes a lot of time. My ideas tend to come fast and furious, and I’m almost always more excited about the next creative spark than perfecting the last one, so I don't really have the patience for realistic detailed pieces that take ages to complete anymore.
So now, I’m leaning into something different.
I’m embracing the joy of self-expression creating simply for the fun of it. Less pressure. More play. More curiosity.
Maybe that’s what being an artist really means.
And if you love the tea aesthetic too (the coziness, the beauty, the quiet rituals) grab your favorite cup and let’s hang out.
